Computer Support for DDS Students
Laptop Requirement: each DDS student must purchase the current high-end CCI laptop model upon entry into the four year program. The purchase is organized through the Dental School.
Exceptions to requirement: none
Initial Setup: OCIS conducts setup sessions during orientation in the middle of August.
Support: OCIS provides full service for the laptops. Hardware problems are forwarded by OCIS to the UNC Computer Repair Center (CRC).
Loaner laptops: OCIS provides loaner laptops in exchange for laptops being repaired in our office or at the CRC. The third floor dispensary in Tarrson Hall also provides emergency loaners for problems that occur when you are treating patients in the clinic and do not have time to take your laptop to OCIS. The loan is only for the length of the clinic period, at which point you should take your laptop to OCIS for repair and obtain a loaner from us if necessary.
E-mail: All students at the School of Dentistry use the School's e-mail system (addresses ending in @dentistry.unc.edu).
Access to Electronic Patient Records (EPR): EPR is installed and configured on each student's laptop.
