Current Research: Common complex persistent pain conditions such as fibromyalgia (FM), temporomandibular disorder (TMD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), vulvar vestibulitis syndrome (VVS), and episodic migraine (EM) are prevalent conditions that are poorly understood and ineffectively treated. My lab has adopted a translational bedside-to-bench and bench-to-bedside approach to the study of these pain conditions. We work with a team of clinicians on large-scale collaborative projects that inform hypotheses tested in basic independent studies, which then inform more advanced clinical studies (e.g., clinical trials). By marrying pain neurobiology, behavioral pharmacology, and molecular genetics with clinical epidemiology, my lab hopes to bridge the significant gap that exists between basic science and clinical research in order to better understand the mechanisms underlying these pain conditions and identify more rational treatment strategies.

In my spare time...I enjoy playing with my two young children, biking/swimming/running, cooking, and listening to house music
