Fox Elected President of the American Cleft-Palate and Craniofacial Association
Lynn Fox, MA, MEd, CCC-SLP, associate professor and speech-language pathologist for the UNC Adams School of Dentistry Craniofacial Center, was recently elected the incoming president of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPCA).
“I joined the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association almost 30 years ago as a new therapist. From the start, this organization has given me the opportunity to meet and collaborate with experts in my own field as well as other fields serving patients with craniofacial differences,” said Fox.
“Its focus on team care for both professionals and people affected by craniofacial differences has provided me with educational and professional opportunities unavailable in any other organization. I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue advancing the work of this organization to help people with oral cleft and craniofacial conditions thrive.”
She joins an impressive list of past ACPCA presidents from UNC-Chapel Hill including Amelia Drake, MD, director of the UNC Craniofacial Center and Newton D. Fischer Distinguished Professor at the UNC School of Medicine; Ronald Strauss, DMD, PhD, UNC Executive Vice Provost; and Donald Warren, DDS, PhD, former UNC Adams School of Dentistry Craniofacial Center director.
Fox has been a member of the faculty at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry for 15 years and has been working with craniofacial teams since the early 90s.
At the Craniofacial Center, Fox provides evaluations and treatment for pediatric and adult patients with communication disorders related to cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies. She also provides evaluation and treatment for patients with other speech and language disorders, especially stuttering.
She teaches graduate students in the UNC School of Medicine Division of Speech and Hearing, incorporating pediatric speech sound disorders with fluency disorders. She has lectured in the U.S. and abroad.
She earned her Master of Arts degree in American History and her Master of Education degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Virginia. She is a member of the American Speech-Lanuage-Hearing Association and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
