Martin Named to American Association of Orthodontics Council

Dr. James MartinDr. James Martin, third-year resident in the advanced education program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, has been named to the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) Council of New and Younger Members. Martin is one of two residents selected nationwide.

As a member of the committee, Martin will participate in the management of the AAO and attend meetings with other council members. He will have the opportunity to assist in the development of new member services, communication tools and interaction avenues for young and new AAO members. The council’s members also assist in promotion of the AAO and the importance of membership to potential member. The appointment to the committee lasts until 2014.

“We’re proud of Dr. Martin for earning this distinction and appointment,” said Dr. Rose Sheats, director of the Graduate Orthodontic Program. “This rare opportunity allows him to influence decisions made by AAO that impact him and his young colleagues, as well as enables him to continue developing as a leader in organized dentistry.”

The AAO Council of New and Younger Members addresses and prioritizes the interests and concerns of orthodontic residents and young doctors with fewer than eight years in practice. Council members represent their younger constituents to the larger AAO boards and committees. They often participate as members of special AAO task forces at the request of the AAO Board of Directors, and also serve on other council committees as needed.
