Minsley to Serve as Interim Chair of Prosthodontics

Dr. Glenn Minsley, associate professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, will begin an appointment as interim chair of the department effective April 25, 2016. This appointment comes after the sudden passing of former chair, Dr. Robert F. Wright.

“Dr. Minsley is well known to generations of students and faculty who have been associated with our prosthodontics department,” said Jane Weintraub, dean of the school. “He is someone who has had a great impact on many lives, both the patients he treats and the students he teaches. We’re immensely grateful for his willingness to step up into this role during our time of need.”

A search for the permanent department chair is underway.

Minsley joined the UNC faculty 34 years ago and, since that time, has taught more than 2,000 pre-doctoral and graduate dental students about removable prosthodontics. He has served the school as director of the Maxillofacial Prosthetics Division for the Graduate Prosthodontic Program and is also the chief of the Division of Maxillofacial Prosthetics in the Department of Hospital Dentistry at UNC Hospitals. Minsley has been an active member of the UNC Dental Implant Team since 1986. In 2007, he was recognized for his excellence in teaching when he received the Richard F. Hunt Award, which is the school’s highest teaching honor.

Minsley graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a DMD degree in 1977. He completed a General Practice Residency at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, N.Y. Subsequently, Minsley completed a residency in prosthodontics followed by a fellowship in maxillofacial prosthetics, all at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, N.Y.
