Kirkland Commits Generous Support for Lecture Hall, Takes Tour of Facility

Mrs. Muriel Kirkland has made a generous commitment to name the George F. Kirkland Jr. Lecture Hall in the Dental Sciences Building. The late Dr. Kirkland attended Duke University and was a graduate of Emory University Dental School.  He was the state’s first board-certified periodontist, and he practiced in Durham for more than 45 years.  Dr. and Mrs. Kirkland’s son, Dr. George F. “Kirk” Kirkland III, is a 1978 graduate of the UNC School of Dentistry and practices in Durham. Muriel Kirkland, Kirk, Kirk’s wife, Leslie (’77 MSPH), and their son Rob (UNC Class of 2011) visited the Dental Sciences Building for a tour of the Kirkland Lecture Hall on October 29. Joining them were Muriel Kirkland’s daughter (Kirk’s sister), Virginia K. “Gini” Caldroney (’68 ABED), and her husband, Tom Caldroney II (’70 BSBA)
