The mission of the Department of Operative Dentistry is to support the academic goals of the institution through teaching, research, service and patient care. Our primary goal in teaching is to provide high quality didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical instruction to graduate and undergraduate students in the discipline of contemporary operative dentistry. Research in operative dentistry is carried out through efforts in clinical, health services, and traditional biomaterials research supported primarily by federal grants and industrial contracts. Service goals are achieved through extensive involvement including leadership positions in committee activities, professional organizations, continuing education and other service related efforts. Patient care goals are carried out through involvement in Clinical Research and the Dental Faculty Practice. Excellence is the underlying goal of all activities.
