The UNC Adams School of Dentistry is committed to providing quality programs featuring the latest advances in science and technology that allow all dental professionals to stay current with new knowledge and innovations in the field of dentistry.

The mission of Office of Continuing Dental Education (CDE) is to improve the knowledge base and advance the practice of dentistry through quality educational activities. By offering activities that feature current research in science and technology, we help dentists and dental team members advance their knowledge and skills, and promote innovations in the field.

The Office of CDE serves a global constituency, including Adams School of Dentistry faculty, staff, and dental professionals in North Carolina, the nation, and beyond. We are dedicated to bringing best practices and excellence to all that we serve and transforming dentistry for better health.

Registration

Registration for CDE activities is available a number of ways:

By mail: Complete and print the application form – a separate form for each person you are registering – and enclose a check for the full fee in U.S. currency (only) for each activity. Make checks payable to UNC Adams School of Dentistry.

Payment and Confirmation

Full payment of the registration fee is due at the time of enrollment for all activities.

Upon enrollment, you will receive an email that will include directions, parking information, registration time, and a receipt for payment.

You are encouraged to register early to ensure receipt of your confirmation letter prior to the activity.

Limited Attendance Activities

Some activities have limited attendance; participants are enrolled on a first-come basis. Special registration and cancellation policies may apply. Registration discounts cannot be applied to limited attendance activities.

Remedial Programs

The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education program offers customized remedial programs which are designed to fit the needs of the dental practitioner and satisfy remediation requirements assigned by the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. The Adams School of Dentistry faculty design and provide “one on one” instruction.

Policies

1. Cancellation and Refund Policy

The Adams School of Dentistry reserves the right to cancel any activity which does not receive sufficient enrollment. The Adams School of Dentistry reserves the right to cancel CDE activities when the UNC-Chapel Hill closes due to severe weather conditions.

Cancellations and Refunds for CE Registrations:
Each CE activity has a cancellation fee and deadline. Check with the activity in question for the exact cancellation fees and deadline.

Cancellations must be received in writing either by fax (919) 537-3098 or email to cde@dentistry.unc.edu. The cancellation request must include: the name of the activity, name of the person registered, name of the person requesting the cancellation, and the reason for the cancellation. No refunds will be issued after the cancellation date given for each specific activity.

The Adams School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education Program cannot be responsible for the refund of any part of the registration fee as a result of emergencies, unforeseen circumstances, or events beyond its control after the cancellation date. Payments made by credit card will be refunded by credit card.

The University and the Adams School of Dentistry reserve the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University and the Adams School of Dentistry will fully refund registration fees but is not responsible for any related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines, rental car or travel agencies.

2. Recording of Continuing Dental Education Credit

The Adams School of Dentistry records activity participants attendance in the school’s electronic database and supplies the participant with a credit letter for each activity attended. Participants are responsible for forwarding the activity credit information to the AGD or other associations, and for maintaining their own records for license renewal.

3. Vendor Policy

The Adams School of Dentistry is a nationally accredited provider. Regulations may differ from state to state based on current legislation and/or various certifying organizations. Individuals are responsible for verifying acceptance of credit hours by their state boards or other licensing agencies. Individuals should check with their licensing boards/agencies for specific questions.

The Adams School of Dentistry cautions continuing dental education participants that there are potential risks of using limited knowledge when incorporating new techniques and procedures into the practice of dentistry, especially when the continuing education activity has not provided supervised clinical experience and/or competency tests in the techniques or procedures.

Dental education institutions have an obligation to disseminate new knowledge related to dental practice. In so doing, some presentations may include controversial materials or commercial references. Sponsorship of a continuing education activity by the University or the Adams School of Dentistry does not necessarily imply endorsement of a particular philosophy, procedure or product by this institution.

Accreditation

This continuing education program is presented by the UNC-Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry and the Continuing Dental Education program. The Continuing Dental Education program is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. The CDE’s term of recognition is May 1, 2019 through December 31, 2023. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual activities or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the provider or to ADA CERP at www.ada.org/cerp.

Conflict of Interest

In accordance with the ADA CERP Standard V., everyone involved in planning or presenting this educational activity will be required to disclose any relevant financial relationships with commercial interests and this information will be made available to participants at the start of the activity. As a continuing education provider, Adams School of Dentistry is responsible for ensuring the content, quality and scientific integrity of all continuing dental education activities for which credit is provided. The school is also responsible for taking steps to protect against and/or disclose any conflict of interest of the faculty/instructors presenting those activities.
