Dr. Karen K. Tiwana (More Detail)
Dr. Karen K. Tiwana is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UNC Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry, in the Department of Operative Dentistry. Born in Alberta, Canada, Dr. Tiwana received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta. She later earned her DDS at Northwestern University, and completed a General Practice Residency at the Denver Health Medical Center. From 2001-2006 Dr. Tiwana was the Director of the Urgent Care Clinic. She currently is the Director of General Dentistry for the UNC Dental Faculty Practice, where she actively treats patients. Dr. Tiwana has been a course director in Oral Diagnosis, and has advanced training in hospital dentistry, management of the medically compromised patient, and treatment planning. She is heavily immersed in clinical teaching in all aspects of General Dentistry. Currently, Dr. Tiwana is a Group Director for the junior DDS students in the predoctoral clinics, and also is involved with graduate level teaching in the AEGD program. Dr. Tiwana's research involvement has been primarily in the areas of dental education, esthetic dentistry, medical issues that have an impact on oral health, as well as dental risk management. She is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
