Brame Named Director of Interprofessional Education and Practice

Effective November 2020, Jennifer Brame, EdS, MS, RDH, professor in the Division of Comprehensive Oral Health, director of the Master of Science in dental hygiene education program and the director undergraduate dental hygiene program, will serve as the UNC Adams School of Dentistry’s director of interprofessional education and practice (IPEP).  

“I am thrilled that Jennie has accepted this position and will represent the UNC Adams School of Dentistry in the realm of interprofessional education and practice,” said Scott S. De Rossi, DMD, MBA, dean of the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.  

“She has a demonstrated passion and dedication to IPEP and I know she will do great things to advance these efforts for the University and our school in this role.” 

Among her responsibilities, Brame will maintain the school-wide IPEP committee, actively seek interprofessional education opportunities for students and employees, and work collaboratively with the UNC-Chapel Hill Office for IPEP and the University’s Assistant Provost for IPEP Meg Zomorodi, PhD, RN, CNL.  

“I am thrilled to serve in this capacity at the Adams School of Dentistry as we continue to ‘move beyond excellence’ and strive for integrated care and collaborative scholarship,” said Brame. “I am excited to create further opportunities for partnership and innovation with our colleagues across Carolina, and extend our interprofessional successes with our exceptional students and employees.” 

Brame received her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene and her master’s degree in dental hygiene education at the Adams School of Dentistry, before joining the faculty in 2007. She is pursuing her doctorate in administrative leadership and graduated with an Education Specialist Degree in administrative leadership, with a concentration in curriculum and instruction, from Carson Newman University. 

Brame was a recipient of the 2020 American Dental Hygienists’ Association Institute for Oral Health Dr. Esther Wilkins Scholarship. As an avid speaker, she has presented continuing education on oral health for the primary care team, management of care for pregnant patients, interprofessional education and collaborative practice, professional learning communities, preventive and therapeutic oral hygiene products, and advances in periodontal treatment. 

She is a reviewer and team member for the Smiles for Life National Oral Health Curriculum and is on the Journal of Dental Hygiene editorial review board. She has written textbook chapters and published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Dental Education, Journal of Dental Hygiene, and Nurse Education Today. She is an active member in the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, American Dental Education Association, and Sigma Phi Alpha. 

The UNC-Chapel Hill Office for IPEP, run by Zomorodi, will oversee creation, implementation and dissemination of interprofessional education, research and clinical experiences designed to enhance collaborative learning across participating schools.  

These schools include the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, Kenan-Flagler Business School, the School of Education, the School of Medicine, the Department of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Nursing, the Eshelman School of Pharmacy, the Gillings School of Global Public Health and the School of Social Work.
