The UNC School of Dentistry is proud to be one of the nation’s only schools to provide education programs in dental assisting, dental hygiene, DDS, all dental specialties and advanced dental education. Below is information on each program and its application information.

 


 

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)

Deadline: November 1 (AADSAS application); November 15 (UNC supplemental application)

The UNC School of Dentistry is widely considered one of the nation’s best dental schools and is particularly known for its top-tier Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) education program. The DDS program is a four-year program that provides admitted students with the skills necessary to become a general dentist at graduation. The program works within the school’s mission of promoting the health of the people of North Carolina, the nation and the world through excellence in teaching, patient care, research and service.


 

Dental Hygiene Program

Deadline: February 15

The UNC School of Dentistry is proud to offer both a bachelor’s degree and a certificate in dental hygiene. In fact, UNC is the only university in the state to offer a baccalaureate level program. The dental hygiene curriculum and experience is identical in the certificate and Bachelor of Science programs. Both provide the knowledge, skill and experience needed to prepare for licensing as a dental hygienist in North Carolina.


 

Dental Assisting Program

Deadline: April 1

A graduate from the UNC Dental Assisting Program is prepared for employment opportunities in general and specialty dental offices as well as in public health, hospital and dental school clinics. The demand for dental assistants currently exceeds the supply. The growth of the dental health field assures an excellent employment outlook for the future.
