April 7, 2014
Dear Friend of the UNC School of Dentistry:
We may officially be past the last of the cold snaps here in Chapel Hill. This week is supposed to be sunny and in the 70s, which hopefully means more blooming trees and spring flowers. Regardless of the foliage, though, this month always ushers in a busy season of events, exams and commencement preparation.
Even though it’s April, it’s not too late to sign up for our events this month!
If you love golf be sure to join us at the 20th UNC School of Dentistry Golf Tournament, which is scheduled for Friday, April 11 at Finley Golf Course. Still need an invitation? Sarah Huppert (919.537.3259, email@example.com) can get the information to you. Don’t miss the chance to compete for a $10,000 prize for making a hole-in-one while helping provide scholarship support for students!
Don’t forget to get your RSVPs in for the Third Annual Best of Dentistry Weekend! I’m excited to invite you to dress in your best and join us for the Best of Dentistry Gala on Friday, April 25. Come enjoy the evening with colleagues and bid on our exciting auction items! On Saturday, if your D.D.S. class is up for its five-year reunion, you’ll want to attend the D.D.S. Class Reunions. It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with old classmates, so don’t miss out!
If you’re planning to be in Chapel Hill during Best of Dentistry Weekend, consider joining us for some of our continuing education opportunities. Don’t miss these four exciting opportunities:
- Friday, April 25, 8:30 a.m.: The 18th Annual Dental Hygiene Lecture. A two-part lecture led by Betsy Reynolds, with a morning entitled “Headliners: Breaking News and its Effect on Health Care,” and an afternoon session called “Diet Wars: Today’s Dieting Trends and the Impact on Oral and Systemic Health”
- Friday, April 25, 8:30 a.m.: The Eighth Annual L.D. Pankey Seminar, led by Drs. Lee Ann Brady and Dr. Mark Kleive. The course title is “Avoiding Restorative Failures.”
- Friday, April 25, 12:45 p.m.: The 30th Annual R.J. Shankle Lecture, led by Dr. Mike Nimmich. This course is entitled “A Fresh Look at some Classic Endodontic Topics in Diagnosis, Instrumentation and Obturation.”
- Saturday, April 26, 8:15 a.m.: The 27th Annual Roy B. Harrell Symposium. This two part course will look at “Oral Appliance Therapy for Sleep-Disordered Breathing,” led by Dr. Greg Essick, and “Forensic Odontology and Science: An Introduction,” led by Dr. Allen Samuelson.
If you have questions about the Third Annual Best of Dentistry Weekend, please contact me (919.537.3260, firstname.lastname@example.org) and I’ll get you whatever information you need. I hope to see many of you over the weekend!
One of my favorite things about all our events is the photos that result from all the fun! We’ll be sharing those on Facebook once the events are done, so be sure to like our Facebook pages for the School of Dentistry, the UNCDAA and the Dental Hygiene Alumni Association. Once you do that, you can tag yourself and your friends in our photo albums, and share pictures from the events with your friends and family.
I hope to see each of you soon and, as always, we thank you for your continued support and your interest in the UNC School of Dentistry.
Tiffany N. Brannan
Director of Communications, UNC School of Dentistry
