Taylor, who was a kind and loving mother, a gentle lady and a superb dentist. Lois E. Taylor was a pioneer among women dental practitioners in North Carolina from 1915 until her retirement in 1980. She was born into a farm family of Gaston County in 1893, the youngest of nine children. Though she wanted to be a medical doctor, Dr. Taylor’s mother felt it inappropriate for a young woman to be “traipsing” all over the countryside in a horse-drawn buggy to take care of patients at all hours of the day or night. But her mother consented for Lois to study dentistry at the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry, Baltimore, from which she graduated in 1915. Shortly after graduation, Lois married Frank Victor Taylor, M.D., a graduate of the Medical
College of Virginia. A joint practice was set up in Stanley, North Carolina. Dr. Taylor moved her office from Stanley to Charlotte, NC in 1927 and continued to practice there until she was 86 years of age. Dr. Taylor died August 14, 1983.
