Dental Hygiene Programs

The Dental Hygiene Programs offered by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill occur on the UNC campus and are located in the UNC School of Dentistry. The programs are designed to educate and prepare dental hygienists for careers in a diverse and changing health care environment. Being a part of UNC School of Dentistry enables students to have a variety of experiences in clinical patient care, community dental health and dental specialties, including geriatric dentistry, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and research. The emphasis is on creating well rounded dental hygiene health care professionals who will treat a variety of patients and provide leadership in the profession.

Dental Hygiene FacultyThe school offers both undergraduate and graduate level education for dental hygiene students. The undergraduate program prepares students to become registered dental hygienists, while the graduate program focuses on allowing already registered dental hygienists to begin careers in academia.


Undergraduate Dental Hygiene Program

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry provides students in the two-year, undergraduate dental hygiene program with two degree options: a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene or a Certificate in Dental Hygiene. The Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Post-secondary Accreditation and the United States Department of Education, accredits both of these dental hygiene programs.


Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Education

Masters Dental Hygiene EducationThe Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Education Program is a 22-month graduate program designed to prepare its students for dental hygiene careers in teaching, administration, research and management.
