Pediatric Dentistry Graduate Program
Prospective students must use the PASS and MATCH application services to apply to the program. Only applications received from PASS will be considered. MATCH and PASS applications are due no later than September 16 to be considered for the class that begins the following July. Application to the Graduate School at the University of North Carolina is not required until after the MATCH process is completed.
The program application deadline is September 16 but this requires that all PASS application materials be on file with PASS by approximately September 3.

A personal interview is required and interviews are made by invitation of the department after reviewing applicants' records. Once a student has matched through the Match program the student must apply to The Graduate School. For International Students:
International students are required to take the TOEFL exam, with a minimum of 89 on the internet-based test, or the IELTS with a minimum score of 7.5. The exam score must be current (less than two years old). Please follow the PASS instructions for submission of the scores to PASS. When registering for the test, you should indicate the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Graduate School (institution #5816) as a score recipient. The TOEFL test is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), CN6151, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6151. You should take the test no later than May to ensure that your score arrives by the application deadline.
All prospective students must hold a DDS, DMD or equivalent degree from a dental school. Admission criteria are applied equally to all applicants regardless of race, sex, color, national origin, religion. The University and the Department encourage minority student applications.
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION
The Graduate Pediatric Dentistry Program is a dual certificate and Master's degree program. Students must apply to the UNC Graduate School for acceptance into a Master's program. As part of the Graduate School application, applicants must upload a curriculum vitae and submit three letters of recommendation. National Dental Board Scores should be uploaded as Supplement Number 1. A statement of professional and research interests outlining motivations, experience, and professional goals should be uploaded under Statement of Purpose. (International applicants are not required to submit NDBS but should if available) Applicants must also upload unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts should not be sent to the department or the Graduate School until requested to do so.
Candidates should apply for the Second Summer session term (July 1 start date).
The application fee must be paid in U.S. funds or international money order. This fee cannot be waived. Applications that arrive without the required fee will remain on file and unprocessed, pending receipt of the fee. The Graduate School will send a notification of receipt of the application only after the fee has been paid and the application has been processed.
When requested to do so by the Graduate School, International applicants must submit official academic records bearing the signature of the registrar or another academic official and either a raised or ink stamp or seal of the issuing institution. Records must be issued in the original language and be accompanied by certified English translations. International applicants must also submit verification that the degree has been awarded or a copy of the certificate of the degree award.
International applicants seeking admission must complete and upload an international student data form and financial certification worksheet. The forms and instructions are available within the ‘International Applicants Only’ page. You may submit your Financial Certificate documentation at any time during the application process or you may wait to upload the documentation until you have received your admittance notification from the Graduate School. Please note these documents must be received and approved by the International Student and Scholar Services office before visa documents can be prepared. Students who are not graduates of an ADA-accredited dental school must complete a simulation exam as part of their NC intern permit process. Such candidates must pass and complete the simulation exam within two months of their formal matriculation in the program. If a candidate does not pass the simulation exam within the two-month interval, he or she cannot advance in the clinical program and will be subject to dismissal from the program.
