About Our School

Our Education Programs

The department has extensive teaching programs that include undergraduate, graduate and continuing education. Dental students learn to provide dental care for pediatric patients and engage in clinical activities during their second, third and fourth years of dental school. The goal of these programs is to educate oral health care providers to be competent in managing the general oral health care needs of infants, children and adolescents. One of the department’s innovative programs, the Baby Oral Health Program, is directed at teaching health care providers to manage infant oral health needs and provide early patient care information to parents/guardians. Dr. Rocio Quinonez created this program and serves also as our undergraduate program director.

Dentists interested in specializing in pediatric dentistry can complete the intensive three-year post-DDS education curriculum, the Pediatric Dentistry Graduate Program. Dr. Jessica Lee serves as the graduate program director.

The department faculty participates in continuing education programs throughout the state helping practitioners stay abreast of the latest developments in pediatric dentistry. The department also sponsors continuing education programs that are typically held in Chapel Hill.
