About Our School

Our Education Programs

We offer graduate educational programs at all levels from our collaborative PhD track in oral epidemiology offered with the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health to our Masters of Science in Dental Hygiene to our one-year (with optional second-year) postdoctoral General Practice Residency, co-sponsored by UNC Hospitals. We also offer a certificate and baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene and a 10-month certificate in dental assisting. Please see the webpages of our individual programs.

For the DDS curriculum, we offer a broad array of courses and clinical education that focuses on preserving the highest level of oral health for vulnerable patients in the context of the community including topics of: social and ethical issues in dental practice, prevention, epidemiology, evidence based dentistry and critical thinking, health care systems, geriatric dentistry, communication skills, oral medicine, management of medically complex patients, and our Dentistry in Service to Communities (DISC) extramural rotations.

Additionally, our faculty members routinely serve as speakers at Continuing Education (CE) programs to further educate practicing dentists. To learn about current CE activities being offered through UNC, click here.
