Welcome to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry website. Thank you for your interest in our school and the ways we serve those in North Carolina and around the globe through our world-class dental education, patient care, service and research.
This is a momentous time to be a part of the UNC School of Dentistry, especially since our new Dental Sciences Building is nearly completed. Soon it will provide an additional 216,000-square-feet of first-class space for research, student learning and continuing education. The spacious atrium, already nicknamed the “living room,” will provide an environment conducive to exchanging ideas and developing collaborations. Our new space will help us to continue attracting outstanding scientists while providing our students with an unrivaled dynamic, caring environment in which to receive their education.
Our school provides top-quality clinical education for our outstanding predoctoral students, and a full range of first-rate advanced education, residency and graduate programs, including two PhD programs where students can concentrate in Oral Biology or Oral Epidemiology. A high standard of research and scholarship sets the UNC School of Dentistry apart from most other dental schools and makes it an integral part of the UNC campus. Our students benefit from exposure to faculty members responsible for new scientific discoveries and clinical advancements across the many facets of dentistry.
At the UNC School of Dentistry, we believe it is equally as important to prepare our students for clinical excellence as it is to encourage them to serve those in our community. As a state institution public service is important to us, and we strive to improve the oral health of North Carolinians across the state and beyond. Patients travel from all over the state to receive dental care from our students, faculty and staff on campus. UNC has long been a leader in giving our students opportunities to go to different parts of the state, the country and the world for community-based and hospital externships. We aim to have our diverse student body exposed to the full range of career paths that our profession offers.
After graduation, our alumni continue to enthusiastically apply what they’ve learned during their time in UNC labs, classrooms and clinics while they serve those around them in all aspects of dentistry.
Since 1950, thanks to the support of University and state leaders, the UNC School of Dentistry continues to be a leader in dental education, research, service and patient care. We appreciate your interest in the activities of our school and hope you will contact us for any additional information you require.
Very best wishes,Jane A. Weintraub, DDS, MPH
