Carroll Ann Trotman, BDS, MA, MS

As the PI for all of our grants, Dr. Trotman is recognized for developing the Facial Animation Laboratory at the UNC School of Dentistry. She is credited with moving our research forward with all of her innovative concepts in craniofacial translational research.



Renate Soltmann, DDS, MS, Co-Investigator Renate Soltmann, DDS, MS
Co-Investigator

Dr. Soltmann joined the Facial Animation Laboratory in January 2010. Her work centered on "ARRA Supplemental Functional Outcomes of Cleft Lip Surgery." Specifically, she focused on quality control of data collection and classification of facial movements in infants.



Chihiro Tanikawa, DDS, PhD, Post-Doctoral Fellow Chihiro Tanikawa, DDS, PhD
Post-Doctoral Fellow

Dr. Tanikawa joined the Facial Animation Laboratory in September 2007. Her work centers on static outcomes of cleft lip surgery. She focuses on the development of an objective method for the classification of nasolabial form.

Virginie joined the Facial Animation Laboratory in August 2013. her work specifically focuses on patient recruitment, data collection, facial movement tracking, data processing, IRB correspondence, and website maintenance.

Savannah joined the Facial Animation Laboratory in May 2013. As a pre-dental student volunteer, Savannah is interested in learning more about research and dentistry.

Terry was with the Facial Animation Laboratory from March 2010 to September 2013. His work involved each of the current grants. Specifically, he focused on patient recruitment, data collection, movement classification, facial movement tracking, data processing, IRB correspondence, and website design and maintenance.



Nayoung Lee, PhD, Post-Doctoral Fellow Nayoung Lee, PhD
Post-Doctoral Fellow

Dr. Lee was with the Facial Animation Laboratory from May 2010 to December 2012. Her work centered on the development of a novel algorithms for automatically detecting and tracking 3D facial movements.
