Replication Genome-wide Association Study of Chronic TMD
Description/Purpose of the Study
To recruit people with chronic TMD, and asymptomatic volunteers; to investigate differences in genetic risk factors for developing chronic TMD. Participation consists of a questionnaire from home or online (15-20 min) and a self-collected saliva sample. Participants who successfully complete all study activities will receive up to $25.

For all: Aged 18-54 years of either gender and of any race/ethnicity.
For all: Living in Chatham, Durham, Orange, or Wake Counties.
For all: Report fluency in written and spoken English.
For TMD cases: Self-reported chronic TMD.
For healthy: Never diagnosed with TMD.
For healthy: No orofacial pain in past 6 months.
For healthy: < 5 temple headaches per month in past 12 months.
For healthy: Do not wear night guard occlusal splint.
Kidney failure or undergoing dialysis.
Heart disease that is not controlled by medication.
Chronic respiratory disease that is not controlled with medication.
Hypertension or high blood pressure that is not controlled with medication.
Epilepsy or take medication to control grand mal seizures.
Diabetes that is not controlled with medication or diet.
Psychiatric disorders/conditions that required hospitalization over last 6 mos.
