DIRECTOR, SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY:
Welcome to the UNC Craniofacial Center. The University of North Carolina Craniofacial Center consists of an interdisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to the care of the patient and family with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other craniofacial anomalies.
Children born with clefts or other craniofacial conditions often face multiple, complex health problems. Experience has shown that these complex issues can best be managed by an interdisciplinary team of specialists who work together, and with the family, create and update the child's health care plan.
Team care is a group of specialized health care workers who are members of different disciplines, each providing specific services to the patient and family. Working together, treatment goals can then be individualized for each patient, and families along with the team can make the best decisions for care by consulting with one another. Children born with craniofacial anomalies often face health care challenges until the child reaches skeletal maturity, or more simply put, finishes growing. Team care is endorsed by the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (www.cleftline.org) and Cleft Advocate (www.cleftadvocate.org)
The UNC team consists of specialists from many fields including:
