The patient and family are considered an integral part of this team approach. The Center provides the following services:
Surgical Treatment of cleft lip, cleft palate, nasal deformities and other craniofacial abnormalities including: Crouzons, Apert and Treacher-Collins Syndromes, Craniofacial Microsomia, etc.
Diagnosis and treatment of associated and unrelated speech disorders.
Dental treatment, including children's dentistry, general dental care, orthodontics, fabrication of speech appliances and care for special needs patients.
Hearing evaluation and treatment of otolaryngologic problems.
Psychological assessment of developmental skills, intellectual function and personality.
Treatment for persons with neuromuscular defects or acquired conditions that affect communicative ability.
Coordinated treatment approach for persons with handicapping malocclusions, growth disorders, upper airway breathing problems and Down Syndrome.
During the one and one-half day diagnostic evaluation, patients and their families have a series of appointments with professionals in the following disciplines: adult general or pediatric dentistry, audiology, genetics, otolaryngology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatrics, plastic surgery, prosthodontics, psychology, social work, speech-language pathology, and other specialties as needed on a consultation basis. Team members meet and discuss their findings and recommendations. An integrated treatment plan is developed from these findings. A designated team professional then meets with the family to review the patient's needs and formulate a treatment approach.
