Smith Starts Appointment as Director of Dental Assisting Program
Effective April 1, Lynn Smith began her new appointment as director of the school's Dental Assisting Program. Most recently, she'd been serving in this role in an interim capacity.
"I am honored to be given the opportunity to direct the program, advancing it to a premier dental assisting program," said Smith. "This program is one of two dental assisting programs housed in a dental school. As such, the program faculty are in a position to educate students in a state-of-the-art facility with internationally renowned faculty."
As program director, Smith will direct the educational curricula in the 10-month Dental Assisting Certificate Program. She will strive to continue to recruit and foster the education of academically gifted candidates in the program. One of her primary goals is to develop and incorporate advanced educational programs for graduates of accredited programs.
"I'm delighted to announce Ms. Smith's appointment as director of the Dental Assisting Program," said Department Chair Dr. Lauren Patton. "She's a wonderful fit for the position and we're all excited to see how she will impact an already successful program."
Smith received her certificate in dental assisting in 1977 and her bachelor's in dental auxiliary teacher education in 1983, both from the University of North Carolina. After that, Smith joined the UNC School of Dentistry, serving as a clinical instructor and clinical assistant professor with the dental assisting program in the Department of Dental Ecology at UNC since 1984.
