Donley Appointed Director of Continuing Education
Ms. Deedra Donley has been appointed director of the school's Continuing Dental Education (CDE) and AHEC programs. Prior to this appointment, which became official on June 28, Donley had served as interim director since October 2012.
“I'm excited to be named the permanent director of continuing education," said Donley. "Having been a part of the school since last October, I'm ahead of the game by knowing school faculty and staff, and the types of opportunities the dental professionals in the area need. I'm looking forward to continuing my work with the School of Dentistry and bolstering our CE offerings and outreach efforts.”
The Continuing Dental Education and AHEC unit advances the knowledge base and practice of dentistry by providing quality educational programs. As director, Donley supports the service mission of the School of Dentistry by directing the CDE and AHEC division. She coordinates and manages all aspects of the continuing education and AHEC programs for the school, including the State Board of Dental Examiners remediation program and the North Carolina Academy of Advanced Clinical Dentistry. Donley and her staff work with the school's faculty to develop programs according to the laws established by the NCSBDE, therefore providing North Carolina's dentists and dental hygienists the opportunities necessary to meet the annual requirements for licensure renewal.
“Since coming to the School of Dentistry nine months ago in an interim capacity, Deedra has done a wonderful job with our continuing education programs,” said Dean Jane Weintraub. “We're glad to welcome her officially into our school's family and look forward to her continued good work.”
Donley, who earned both her bachelor's degrees from UNC, previously worked at the UNC School of Medicine Office of Continuing Education for more than 10 years. During her time there, she rose to the role of director of the office and led the office to accreditation with commendation, an honor reserved for a select number of medical education providers. She has also served as a consultant to various medical education entities. In addition to her bachelor's degrees, Donley holds an M.S. in organizational management from Pfeiffer University and a M.Ed. in adult education from Penn State University. She completed the post-graduate program in distance education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as a post-baccalaureate certificate from N.C. State University in adult education/training and development, and a certificate from Duke University in non-profit management.
The University of North Carolina School of Dentistry is an AGD PACE and ADA CERP recognized provider.
