Koroluk Receives Board Certification in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Lorne KorolukDr. Lorne Koroluk, an associate professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Orthodontics and the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, recently completed the gateway clinical examination with the American Board of Orthodontics.

By successfully completing this clinical examination, he joins an exclusive group of dental professionals who are diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics as well as the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Along with these qualifications, Koroluk has also successfully completed the Fellowship specialty examinations in both orthodontics and pediatric dentistry with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Only one other individual, Dr. David B. Kennedy of Vancouver B.C., has completed both orthodontic and pediatric dentistry specialty examinations in the U.S. as well as in Canada.

“I’ve always been interested in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. The two specialties are closely intertwined and allow me to provide comprehensive care to my patients as they progress from childhood to adolescence and into adulthood,” said Koroluk.

This interest is evidenced in his education. Koroluk completed both his master’s of science in dentistry and a certificate in pediatric dentistry from Indiana University. He also earned a master’s of science and a certificate in orthodontics from the University of Minnesota. This enabled him to receive a joint appointment in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics with the UNC School of Dentistry when he joined the faculty.

Prior to joining the faculty at UNC, Koroluk was head of the Department of Community and Pediatric Dentistry in the College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
