Dr. Rachel Garaas Awarded 2011 Straumann Resident Research Award by AAOMS


Dr. Rachel GaraasDr. Rachel Garaas received the 2011 Resident Research Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) for her research paper “Prevalence of Third Molars with Caries Experience or Periodontal Pathology in Young Adults.” Dr. Garaas is a resident in the Oral and Maxillofacial Department.

The Straumann-sponsored award, given annually, is awarded to the resident who demonstrates superior standards of research and clinical application. The winning paper is selected from oral and maxillofacial surgery residents from programs around the country. Ideally the winning paper reflects superior research and clinical standards while demonstrating an understanding that excellence and continuing education in oral and maxillofacial surgery are essential to providing reliable, safe patient care.

Dr. Garaas will be honored for her accomplishment during the opening ceremonies of the 93rd AAOMS Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 14 in Philadelphia.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Dr. Garaas earned a BA in chemistry and graduated with honors for her thesis, “Synthesis of Proton-Sensing Ligand and Their Attachment to Gold Nanoclusters.”  She earned her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
