Dental Sciences Building Bridge

It may not become as storied as the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, or as iconic as the Rialto Bridge in Venice, but the new bridge from the Dental Sciences Building, over Manning Drive, to the Thurston-Bowles Plaza will surely draw favorable reviews from UNC students, faculty and the public alike. Not completed yet, the bridge's elegantly arching span will promote the elevated and safe passage of people across Manning Drive. No longer will pedestrians have to dodge cars and busses as they cross the busy and dangerous road on their way to and from the many health science buildings on the southern part of the UNC's campus. Our appreciation goes to the planners and architects who saw in the new bridge an opportunity to increase public safety while also providing a more defined and attractive entrance to the southwest corner of the UNC Chapel Hill campus.
