Baby Oral Health Program
The Baby Oral Health Program (bOHP) provides an educational setting that allows DDS students and pediatric dental residents to gain hands-on clinical experience in the delivery of infant and toddler oral health. This program takes place in various sites including the Lincoln Community Health Center, a federally-funded health community center in downtown Durham as well as our school-based clinical setting where we provide a dental home for children enrolled in the Early Head Start Program. Other initiatives include the development of our “Baby Oral Health Kit” that includes necessary preparatory materials (DVD, provide flip chart, clinical forms) to provide infant oral health services in clinical practice. As we look towards the future, we anticipate increasing the number of sites to enhance the opportunity for exposure in the clinical management of the youngest and on one of the most vulnerable populations in NC. The BOHP is a critical component of the UNC School of Dentistry’s role in addressing the current crisis related to access to care for high-risk children in the state.
