DEPARTMENT CHAIR: Dr. Paul Emile Rossouw
Thank you for your interest in the department of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina. The 9 full time faculty members of the department join me in welcoming you to our web pages (see Related Links list on right). We are proud of the many teaching, research and patient care programs that we conduct at both graduate and predoctoral level. We hope that our web pages will give you a flavor of the many projects and programs that are currently being carried on by faculty staff residents and students, and that we will be able to portray a sense of the departments activities. However, if you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to call or email us here.
To maintain the Department of Orthodontics as a world leader in academic orthodontics through excellence in our teaching, research, service/engagement, and patient care programs.
The mission of the Advanced Education Program is to prepare residents for community-based or academic practice who demonstrate excellence in their practice and leadership in their profession and community.
To realize our vision and mission, we have established specific program goals in the areas of education, research, patient care, and service/engagement.
Education: to provide an evidence-based foundation of behavioral, biologic, biomaterial, biomechanical and management principles to prepare residents for their professional future. For more information about our Orthodontics Master's Program and admission requirements, visit the Related Links on the right.
Research: to teach residents sound methodological principles in research and scholarly endeavor and to instill the necessity of implementing evidence-based decision making into their professional careers.
Patient Care: to prepare residents to deliver high quality, innovative, efficient, compassionate, and ethical care.
Service/Engagement: to encourage residents to serve diverse populations of patients, their communities, and the profession, and to advance the specialty of orthodontics by participating in teaching activities throughout their careers.
