Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is academically based in the School of Dentistry, linked to the Department of Surgery at the UNC School of Medicine and functions primarily in University of North Carolina Hospitals. Affiliated hospitals include the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham and Mission Hospitals in Asheville, NC. The Department teaches and practices a broad scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. There are 5 faculty, 14 residents and 28 part-time faculty. The Department offers a postdoctoral program in oral and maxillofacial surgery that prepares candidates for examination and certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and for a career that encompasses the broad scope of this specialty. The program is approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association. The Department provides oral and maxillofacial surgery education, both clinical and didactically to the 320 predoctoral students enrolled at UNC School of Dentistry.
