Dr. Enrique Platin

Dr. Platin is a clinical professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry. He was trained in radiological sciences at New York Policlinic Medical School and Hospital, received a B.A. in romance languages and physical sciences from Queens College, City University of New York, an M.S. in education from Western Illinois University, and a doctorate degree in health occupations education and adult community college education from North Carolina State University.

Dr. Platin specializes in oral and maxillofacial radiology education. He has authored over 30 articles in professional journals and is co-author of the textbook "Radiographic Imaging for the Dental Team." He often presents at local and national levels and is currently the director of the Carolina Institute for Dental Radiology Educators.

Dr. Platin is involved in undergraduate and graduate dental education and serves on numerous committees at the School of Dentistry. He lectures on a variety of radiology topics including quality assurance, imaging techniques, digital radiography, cone beam computed tomography, intraoral and extraoral radiographic techniques and radiographic anatomy. His research are in dental radiology quality assurance, radiographic imaging techniques, educational methodologies and computer applications in dental radiology.

Dr. Platin holds memberships in many professional organizations including the Association of Educators in Radiological Sciences, the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and the International Society of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology. In addition, he is a reviewer for the Journal of Oral surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics, and the International Journal of Maxillofacial Radiology. Dr. Platin is an honorary member of the Upsilon Upsilon Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon at the School of Dentistry. He is the recipient of several teaching awards at the school and the Eastman Kodak Company for his contributions to the Kodak Dental Radiography Series.
