Ms. Vickie Overman (More Detail)
Ms. Overman currently serves as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Dental Ecology at the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill and the director of the Preventive-Recall Service. She received her B.S. in dental auxiliary teacher education at UNC in 1981 and a master's degree in adult and higher education in 1983.
Currently, Ms. Overman serves on the Procter and Gamble lecture board and acts as an editoral reviewer for the Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice, the Journal of Dental Hygiene and the International Journal of Dental Hygiene.
Ms. Overman currently holds memberships in several professional organizations such as the ADHA, IADR, and ADEA. She teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate dental hygiene programs as well as the undergraduate D.D.S. curriculum. She also serves as senior clinic coordinator in the dental hygiene program. Her course responsibilities include community dental health, dental materials, dental radiology lab and clinical dental hygiene; she teaches clinically in both the preventive recall clinic and the radiology clinic.
In 1995, she co-authored the textbook Radiographic Imaging for the Dental Team with UNC's Dr. Sally Mauriello and Dr. Rick Platin. Additionally, Ms. Overman has presented over 100 continuing education programs at the local, state and national levels.
Over the years, Ms. Overman has given a number of lectures in Moldova and has contributed to initiating and participating in a fluoride varnish program for the children of Moldova. So far this program has treated over 4,500 children in that country's schools and orphanages.
