Dr. Sally M. Mauriello (More Detail)
Dr. Mauriello is a Professor in the Department of Dental Ecology at the UNC School of Dentistry. She received her A.A.S. in dental hygiene from Central Piedmont Community College, her B.S. in Dental Auxiliary Teacher Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Ed.D. in Adult and Community College Education from North Carolina State University.
Dr. Mauriello worked full-time in private practice from 1974-77 and worked part time with a medically-compromised population from 1979-1990. Her current teaching responsibilities include classes in special care, geriatric dentistry and dental radiography. During her career, Dr. Mauriello has received several awards for teaching excellence from the UNC dental hygiene students and given presentations at both the state, national, and international levels. Dr. Mauriello has co-authored a textbook entitled Radiographic Imaging for the Dental Team.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Mauriello is involved in dental research and graduate teaching, as well as serving as academic advisor for the Certificate and BS Dental Hygiene programs. Also, she has served as a staff representative and consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and currently is a member of the CODA Predoctoral Review Committee.
Dr. Mauriello is a member of professional organizations such as the American Dental Hygiene Society, the American Dental Educators Association, the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry and the American Association of Dental Research. Her major research interests include examiner calibrations, geriatric dentistry and dental radiography.
