Dr. Lyndon Cooper (More Detail)
Dr. Lyndon Cooper serves as a professor and current director of the Graduate Prosthodontics Program. He also has an adjunct appointment at the UNC School of Medicine and is a member of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. He is the director of the Bone Biology and Implant Therapy Laboratory and actively participates in the UNC Dental Faculty Practice. In 1996, Dr. Cooper became a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
A recipient of University, corporate and NIH funding, Dr. Cooper and his colleagues continue to investigate the cellular basis of bone formation. His clinical interests focus on the development of cell based tissue engineering for clinical bone formation and the immediate loading of dental implants.
Dr. Cooper received his D.D.S. degree in 1983 from NYU and his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester before earning his prosthodontics certificate from Eastman Dental Center in 1990. He then completed a two-year research fellowship at the National Institute of Dental Research in Bethesda, Md.
