Ms. Smith is a clinical assistant professor in the dental assisting program in the Department of Dental Ecology at the UNC School of Dentistry. In her current role, she instructs courses in dental assisting and performs research on night guard vital bleaching and assessment of team dentistry.
She received her certificate in dental assisting in 1977 and her bachelor's in dental auxiliary teacher education in 1983 from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Ms. Smith has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics, Cleft Palate Journal, and Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry. She served as a member of the Dental Assisting National Board for seven years as the American Dental Education Association representative and as the board secretary. She currently holds memberships in organizations like the International Association of Dental Research, the American Association of Dental Research, and the American Dental Education Association and American Dental Assistants Association.
