UNC DentistrE News

September 13, 2013

Dear Friend of the UNC School of Dentistry:

Greetings from Chapel Hill! Hopefully you enjoyed some time off and with family over the Labor Day weekend.

I’m thrilled to share the latest exciting news from the Office of Advancement! Sarah Andrews, executive director of the UNCDAA, got married last week! She and her husband, Dave, said their vows on a beautiful afternoon here in the Triangle. She’s formally going by Sarah Huppert moving forward. (For now, you can still email her at sarah_andrews@unc.edu but once her name change is final through HR, she’ll have a new email address.) Please join us in congratulating her and Dave on their wedding!

We hope to see a lot of you out at the Alumni Day event on September 28! It’s sure to be a great weekend of catching up with colleagues, CE opportunities and, best of all, Carolina football! If you have questions about the weekend, just give us a call: 919.537.3257.

One more quick note about that weekend: dental hygiene has decided to postpone its CE offering and alumni brunch until the spring. Please contact our office with questions.

If you’re planning to attend the ADA meeting in New Orleans, we invite you to come to the annual UNC School of Dentistry Alumni Reception at the ADA Meeting. That will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 4 – 6 p.m. in the at Grand Salon Section 18 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel. Be sure to come by for a drink and to say hello to Sarah Huppert and your fellow UNC alumni!

We’ve learned that the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) has established the Dr. James Crawford Memorial Lecture to be held annually at the ADA Annual Session. This year, Dr. Michael Glick will teach the course, entitled “A Skeptic’s Guide to Clinical Protocols,” being held on November 1 at 9 a.m. As many of you remember, Dr. Crawford was a faculty member at our school for 18 years and is regarded by many as the founding father of dental infection control. He passed away in January at the age of 81.

As always, if you’d like to make your annual gift, set-up a recurring gift or make a one-time donation to the Dental Foundation, you may do so online by clicking here or contacting our office (alumni@dentistry.unc.edu, 919.537.3257) to discuss your giving options.

Don’t forget: to stay in touch with the school and our alumni groups between these emails, connect with us on Facebook and Twitter! You can like the School of Dentistry, UNCDAA and UNC Dental Hygiene Alumni Association on Facebook, and follow the school on Twitter at @UNCDentistry.

Thank you for your continued investment in and support of our school! I hope to see you in Chapel Hill soon!

Best regards,

Tiffany N. Brannan
