UNC DentistrE News

May 8, 2013

Dear Friend of the UNC School of Dentistry:

Commencement week greetings from Chapel Hill! This Friday's ceremony will be the school's 60th graduation ceremony! The Class of 2013 is made up of promising dental assisting, dental hygiene, D.D.S., and post-D.D.S. students, and we're sure you'll enjoy welcoming them into the dental profession.

Now that we're a few weeks out from all of our April events, the Office of Advancement is able to say THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the UNC School of Dentistry Golf Tournament and, a few weeks later, the school's Best of Dentistry Weekend events. The tournament, held on April 12, raised $3,000 for student scholarships and had nearly 100 participants. The Best of Dentistry Gala, on April 26, raised more than $32,000 to be split between student scholarships, fourth-year clinic upgrades and the UNC Craniofacial Center. Many different groups within the school will feel the impact of your generosity, and we're grateful for those of you who joined us for those events.

In the realm of media coverage, I'm pleased to share an article from The New York Times about pregnancy and dental care. The story originated from conversations between the reporter and school faculty, and it gives a wonderful highlight to our school. I invite you to read the story (and watch the video with photos from our clinic) here.

Paul Gardner, Sarah Andrews and I look forward to seeing many of you at the N.C. Dental Society annual meeting next week, and we hope you'll stop by our booth to say hello! We also hope you've chosen to attend the UNCDAA Breakfast at the Beach and Annual Meeting, being held on Friday, May 17. The breakfast starts a bit earlier this year - 7:30 a.m. - so that attendees can make it to CE courses on time. If you have questions about that, be sure to call Sarah at 919.537.3259!

I also want to remind you that our fiscal year closes on June 30. If you'd like to make a gift to the Dental Foundation of North Carolina that counts toward the 2012-13 fiscal year, be sure to do that soon! You can click here to give online or contact our office (919.537.3257, to discuss your giving options.

As always, thank you for your interest and support! I look forward to seeing you next week!

Best regards,

Tiffany N. Brannan
