February 6, 2013
Dear Friend of the UNC School of Dentistry:
We're only one month into 2013, but things are definitely busy here at the Office of Advancement. There is neither a shortage of events to plan nor exciting happenings to be a part of, so we're all solidly back in the swing of life at the School of Dentistry.
Later this month, the school hosts its annual Dental Research and Review Day, which is an opportunity for students, residents and faculty to share their research in a public forum. The event is held at Koury Oral Health Sciences on February 27, and all are welcome to attend. Dr. Martha Somerman, director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research/National Institute of Health (NIDCR/NIH), will deliver the keynote address. For more information, click here. We hope you'll consider joining us!
As you're aware, the spring is full of School of Dentistry events - and a number of those are put on at least in part by our office. Be sure to put these dates on your calendar:
- March 22, 6 p.m.: UNC School of Dentistry Alumni Reception at the Thomas P. Hinman Meeting (Atlanta)
- April 12: School of Dentistry's 19th Golf Tournament (Finley Golf Course, Chapel Hill)
- April 26-27: Second Annual Best of Dentistry Weekend; includes Best of Dentistry Gala on Friday and five-year-cycle D.D.S. class reunions on Saturday (Chapel Hill)
Every once in a while, we like to remind you about a service we offer for you: Dental OPPS. Dental OPPS is our Dental Online Professional Posting Service and is a great resource for school alumni to advertise - and find - dental opportunities! Whether you're hiring new assistants or hygienists, looking to become an associate at an established practice, selling your practice or leasing a building, be sure to contact us to get your advertisement listed on the Dental OPPS website.
We wanted you to know that recently we began our final fundraising phase for Koury Oral Health Sciences: a one-time opportunity to purchase a brick in the Atrium of the new facility! Unlike traditional brick campaigns where names are blasted into bricks and laid into the ground, these bricks will take the form of a glass panel with writing etched into a glass overlay of the bricks. Each brick costs $250 and is 100% tax-deductible. If you'd like more information, just contact the Office of Advancement (919.537.3257, email@example.com). It's important to note that the number of bricks is limited and all contributions must be made by June 30, 2013 - so act fast!
On the administrative front, we're sorry to announce that Christy Dixon, who was with our office on a temporary basis, recently left to accept a position at WUNC. However, we're pleased that Ms. Paula Poe has stepped in to assist us as an administrative assistant! If you'd like to contact Paula, you can dial our main line (919.537.3257), call her directly at 919.537.3261, or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don't forget - if you'd like to give to the Dental Foundation of North Carolina to support the School of Dentistry, that's easy to do at any time! Just click here to give online or contact our office (919.537.3257 or email@example.com) to discuss your giving options.
We're looking forward to seeing you soon! Thank you for your continued support and your interest in the UNC School of Dentistry!
