UNC DentistrE News

December 1, 2011

Dear Friend of the UNC School of Dentistry:

The holiday season is officially here, complete with carols, strings of lights, decorated trees and party invitations. Although our students are hard at work studying for finals and doing rotations in the clinics, it's obvious wherever you look that the School of Dentistry has been bitten by the holiday bug.

It seems fitting that as we usher in the new year, we also usher in a new interpretive reading service in the radiology division of the school. The Department of Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry, which houses the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, is now providing dental practitioners with cone beam CT (CBCT) reviews! Included in the service is a thorough report of findings and a differential diagnosis by the school's board certified radiologists. These reports can be used as a second-opinion on or confirmation of suspected abnormal or unusual CBCT findings. For more information, visit their new website.

Another service we offer that isn't new is Dental OPPS. Dental OPPS is our Dental Online Professional Posting Service and is a great resource for school alumni to advertise - and find - dental opportunities! Whether you're hiring new assistants or hygienists, looking to become an associate at an established practice, selling your practice or need to lease a building, be sure to contact us to get your advertisement listed on the Dental OPPS website.

We know this is a busy time of year with gift-buying and food-donating, and understand it can be easy to overlook giving to the School of Dentistry. But if you haven't done so yet this calendar year, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Dental Foundation of North Carolina to support the School of Dentistry. For more information, contact our office (919.966.4563 or alumni@dentistry.unc.edu), or you can click here to give online.

Along similar lines, a quick note to those of you 70.5 years old and over: the IRA Charitable Rollover provision is expiring on December 31, 2011. That means there's limited time to take advantage of this tax-free way to gift up to $100,000 of IRA assets to the school. If you think this may be the right giving opportunity for you, contact Paul Gardner at 919.966.6984 or paul_gardner@dentistry.unc.edu.

We're grateful beyond words for all your support and enthusiasm during 2011 and look forward to a successful, exciting 2012, complete with the official opening of our Dental Sciences Building! From our "family" to yours, we wish you all a wonderful holiday season and new year!

Happy holidays!,
