Dear Friend of the UNC School of Dentistry:
The indicator of the last days of summer, Labor Day weekend, has come and gone. As we're all looking forward to a reprieve from this record-breaking heat, everyone on campus is getting back in the swing of classes, clinics and research.
The D.D.S. Class of 2015, made up of 43 women and 38 men, completed its orientation and now is beginning their journey of becoming UNC School of Dentistry graduates. Containing 66 NC residents out of a total enrollment of 81, the class ranges in age from 21 to 41 and carries an impressive average GPA of 3.59. This new group of students comes from 37 different undergraduate institutions - 17 of which are NC-based - and brings a diverse background of undergraduate studies together, 26 different majors in all, including anthropology, biochemistry, biology, economics, mathematics, nutrition, civil engineering, finance, fine arts and business administration to just name a few. It's striking to think that such a varied group of people can all have the goal of becoming part of the next generation of dental professionals.
A schedule change is coming for the North Carolina Dental Review! Unfortunately, the magazine hasn't been on a consistent schedule as of late, but we're aiming to change that. We plan to distribute a fall and spring issue of the North Carolina Dental Review with tentative mailing timelines of March and October annually, beginning this October. We anticipate this schedule will allow recipients to be kept up-to-date about school happenings, student news and fellow alumni news on a consistent basis in coordination with our academic calendar. If you have feedback about the magazine, I welcome you to contact me directly at email@example.com.
And of course, we can't go without reminding everyone about our upcoming alumni events! Don't forget about the UNCDAA reception at the ADA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas in the Luxor's Egyptian Ballroom on October 11, or the Barbeque and Football party being held in the Dental Sciences Building Atrium before the Homecoming football game against Wake Forest on October 29! Looking into 2012 - it'll be here before we know it! - be sure to mark the weekend of April 27 - 28, 2012 for the Best of Dentistry Weekend, which will include the ribbon-cutting for the Dental Sciences Building.
Don't forget to stay in touch between these emails!
