Dental Assistants Alumni Association
The University of North Carolina Dental Assistants' Alumni Association has established a scholarship in the memory of Faye J. Watkins, CDA. Faye J. Watkins graduated from the first dental assisting class at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1958 and served as the first President of the UNC Dental Assistants' Alumni Association. She practiced as a dental assistant with Drs. Whitehend, Oliver, Reep, Carroll, and McAllister. From 1978-1987, Faye taught in the Dental Assisting Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill sharing her passion for dental assisting with those learning of their chose profession. For 17 years, she served on the North Carolina Committee for Dental Health and was a life emeritus member of the Dental Assisting National Board, retired life member of the American Dental Assistants' Association, former member of the Johnston-Harnett Dental Assistants' Association, Chapel Hill Dental Assistants' Association, former President of the Wake County Dental Assistants' Association, the Durham-Orange Dental Assistants' Association and the North Carolina Dental Assistants' Association for 2 terms (1984-1985 and 1991-1992) with additional service to the American Dental Assistants' Association on various committees.
- The individual must be currently enrolled in the University of North Carolina Dental Assisting Program and in current good academic standing, and
- The individual must demonstrate financial need, and
- The individual must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Scholarship Submission Date:
The scholarship must be submitted by January 15th of each year. Late applications will not be accepted for scholarship consideration.

The recipient will be awarded the scholarship at the annual Spurgeon Dental Banquet.
