Dental Hygiene


Tuition & Fees


Dental hygiene students are responsible for undergraduate tuition and fees payable to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as well as fees to the UNC School of Dentistry.

University Tuition and Fees

Please visit UNC-CH Cashier's Office for current tuition and fees per semester. These are listed under Health Affairs, at the top of the Dental School page.

Dental Hygiene Fees

Dental hygiene fees, paid to the UNC School of Dentistry yearly, include radiology sensor rentals, laundry fees, and copying fees.

First year fees are approximately $800 and also include teaching models, clickers, specially prepared teeth, dentoforms, stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.

Second year fees are approximately $200.

Student American Dental Hygiene Association

Students are encouraged to join their professional organization the American Dental Association. Membership for students is $90 per year and payable at orientation in August.

To Become a Licensed Dental Hygienist

Upon completion of the dental hygiene program, students will take the National Board Dental Hygiene Exam (approximately $400) and a practical exam in the state where they will be licensed. In North Carolina, hygienists take the CITA Exam from the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies, Inc. The cost for this is approximately $1000.
