Orthodontics Master's Program

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available in the form of grants, fellowships, teaching assistantships and departmental stipends.

Departmental stipend levels are contingent on availability of funds.

2013-2014 Orthodontic Department Stipend Levels

First Year $12,000
Second Year $17,300
Third Year $21,000

The current level of stipend includes Student Health Insurance and are subject to change.

Regardless of the availability of financial support, teaching responsibilities are a part of the graduate program.

Fellowships and Scholarships in Orthodontics are awarded through funds designated for these purposes by Friends of the Orthodontic Department and by the School of Dentistry.  The Andrew Brooks, Miriam Easterling Baker, and Jack and Renee Dunlevy Fellowships are available only to orthodontic residents.  Recipients are selected by the faculty of the department. The number of awards is limited, awards are contingent on availability of funds, and may not be awarded every year.

The department supports and encourages resident travel to research (for example, AADR) and professional meetings (for example, GORP, AAO) by defraying the cost of registration and travel expenses.  Such support is contingent on availability of funds.

Residents with faculty support and mentoring are encouraged to seek external funding for their MS research projects through the SAO or the NCTracs Program.  Some resident research projects may be supported by faculty projects with external funding.  Support with the approval of the chair is available through the Orthodontic Department Dental Foundation of NC funds.
