Operative Dentistry Master's Program
Applications to the Graduate School of the University of North Carolina must be received on or before April 8th, 2014. Priority consideration for the class beginning in July, 2014 will be given to applications received by the UNC Graduate School by December 3, 2013.
Applications for admission to the program are made online through the UNC Graduate School: http://www.gradschool.unc.edu/students_prospective.html. Candidates should apply for the Second Summer session term (July 1 start date).

As part of the Graduate School application, applicants must upload a curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose, outlining motivations, experience and professional goals. If available, National Dental Board Scores should be uploaded as Supplement Number 1. Applicants must also upload unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts should not be sent to the department or the Graduate School until requested to do so.
The application fee must be paid in U.S. funds or through an international money order. This fee cannot be waived. Applications that arrive without the required fee will remain unprocessed, pending receipt of the fee. The Graduate School will send a notification of receipt of the application only after the fee has been paid and the application has been processed.
Application packets are reviewed by the program director and an admissions committee. Not more than three applicants are accepted for admission each year. Applicants should not request an interview unless invited to do so by the program director.
Admission criteria are applied equally to all applicants regardless of race, gender, color, national origin, or religion. The University and the Department encourage minority student applications.
Applicants must possess a DDS, DMD, or equivalent degree.
International students should submit National Board Scores, if available, as Supplement Number 1 in the Graduate School application.
International students are required to take the TOEFL exam, with a minimum total score of 550 and a minimum score of 50 in each section (internet-based TOEFL exam with a minimum total score of 79 is acceptable as well). The exam score must be current (less than two years old). When registering for the test, candidates should indicate the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Graduate School (institution #5816) as a score recipient. The TOEFL test is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), CN6151, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6151. Applicants should take the test no later than October to ensure that scores arrive by the application deadline.
International applicants seeking admission must complete and upload an international student data form and financial certification worksheet. You must complete the required forms and documentation under “International Dental Graduate Applicants 2014”. The forms and instructions are available within the ‘International Applicants Only’ page. You may submit your Financial Certificate documentation at any time during the application process or you may wait to upload the documentation until you have received your admittance notification from the Graduate School. Please note these documents must be received and approved by the International Student and Scholar Services office before visa documents can be prepared.
