Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology Graduate Program
The Department of Diagnostic Sciences, Oral Radiology Section, at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill offers a three-year postdoctoral program leading to a Master of Science degree conferred by the Graduate School of the University. The program prepares qualified oral and maxillofacial radiology specialists for positions of responsibility in institutions of higher dental education, research, or in the private practice setting. Participants gain experience in oral and maxillofacial radiologic practice; acquire background information in radiation physics, biology,and protection; and enhance their teaching and research skills. Upon completion of all requirements, each student is eligible for examination and certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.
This program may be combined with other educational programs in the basic sciences, oral biology, or epidemiology leading to a doctoral degree in the chosen field. The length of the combined program will be determined jointly by the two departments. For those interested in PhD level training in Radiology, UNC has a joint program in imaging with Kings College London. The student matriculates with Kings College in London and conducts the research here at UNC under the guidance of School of Dentistry Radiology faculty. The PhD degree is granted through Kings College London.
