I hope you will enjoy visiting our program's webpage. As a team, we are daily striving for excellence in patient care and education of our residents.
Past residents have commented at the end of the program:
- "I had a great experience."
- "I have enjoyed my experience at UNC. I've learned a lot and networked. I want to thank all my attendings for their knowledge and sharing their experiences with me."
The General Practice Residency (GPR) Program is a twelve-month certificate program with second-year option, accredited by the American Dental Association’ Commission on Dental Accreditation. The Educational Program includes rotations to specialized sites affiliated with the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals. The primary clinical training sites for the program include the dental services of the University of North Carolina Hospitals (5-6 months), the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham, N.C. (3-4 months), and the Orange County Health Department in Hillsborough, N.C. (1-2 months). Operating room and On-call experiences are ample. Additional rotations during the first year of the program include two weeks each with Medicine-Precare and Anesthesiology at UNC Hospitals. The optional second-year curriculum is designed to offer additional time on both outpatient and inpatient services at UNC Hospitals and on elective rotations. The second-year resident(s) serve as Chief Resident for the program.
For academic year 2013-14 we had 5 first-year residents and 2 second-year residents; in academic year 2014-2015 we have 7 first-year residents. Our plan each year is to enroll 7 residents between the first and second year curricula.
