Endodontics Master's Program
For your convenience, the UNC Department of Endodontics participates in the PASS program. Application through PASS is required for admission to our program. Our PASS application deadline is August 1st this year to be considered for the class that begins the following July. Three separate items are submitted directly to the endodontic department (UNC Campus Safety Questions, Undergraduate College Transcripts, and a 2"x2" photograph). All applications are reviewed and then a selected group of prospective residents are invited to a personal interview in September/October. Final acceptance of residents is announced shortly thereafter.

Prospective students must include the following in their application to PASS:
- Unofficial transcripts from your dental school program
- Candidate essay
- A letter of recommendation / evaluation from the Dean of your dental school (Institutional Evaluation)
- Two (2) other letters of recommendation (Professional Evaluations)
- Three (3) PPI (Professional Performance Index) evaluations
- National Dental Board Examination Scores (Part 1 and 2 - Part 2 if available)
For International Students:
- Foreign Transcripts Evaluation
- TOEFL examination scores
International students are required to take the TOEFL exam, with a minimum total score of 550 and a minimum score of 50 in each section. The exam score must be current (less than two years old). Please follow the PASS instructions for submission of the scores to PASS. When registering for the test, you should also indicate the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Graduate School (institution #5816) as a score recipient. The TOEFL test is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), CN6151, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6151. You should take the test no later than May to ensure that your score arrives by the application deadline.
SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIRED MATERIALS
Each applicant must submit the following directly to the Department of Endodontics:
All prospective residents must hold a DDS, DMD or equivalent degree from a dental school. Additional training such as AGD or GPR, or practice experience is recommended but not required. Admission criteria are applied equally to all applicants regardless of race, sex, national origin or religion. The University of North Carolina and the Department encourage minority resident applications.
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION
The Graduate Endodontics Program is a dual certificate and Master of Science(MS) program. Only after provisional acceptance into the Endodontic Program, applications for admission to the Graduate School should be made online: http://www.gradschool.unc.edu/students_prospective.html.
Candidates should apply for the Second Summer session term (July 1 start date).
As part of the Graduate School application, applicants must upload a curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose, outlining motivations, experience and professional goals. National Dental Board Scores should be uploaded as Supplement Number 1. Applicants must also upload unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts should not be sent to the department or the Graduate School until requested to do so.
The application fee must be paid in U.S. funds or through an international money order. This fee cannot be waived. Applications that arrive without the required fee will remain unprocessed, pending receipt of the fee. The Graduate School will send a notification of receipt of the application only after the fee has been paid and the application has been processed.
When requested to do so by the Graduate School, International applicants must submit official academic records bearing the signature of the registrar or another academic official and either a raised or ink stamp or seal of the issuing institution. Records must be issued in the original language and be accompanied by certified English translations. International applicants must also submit verification that the degree has been awarded or a certificate of the degree award.
International applicants seeking admission must complete and upload an international student data form and financial certification worksheet. You must complete the required forms and documentation under “International Dental Graduate Applicants 2014”. The forms and instructions are available within the ‘International Applicants Only’ page. You may submit your Financial Certificate documentation at any time during the application process or you may wait to upload the documentation until you have received your admittance notification from the Graduate School. Please note these documents must be received and approved by the International Student and Scholar Services office before visa documents can be prepared. Students who are not graduates of an ADA-accredited dental school must complete a simulation exam as part of their NC intern permit process. Such candidates must pass and complete the simulation exam within two months of their formal matriculation in the program. If a candidate does not pass the simulation exam within the two-month interval, he or she cannot advance in the clinical program and will be subject to dismissal from the program.
